An 88-year-old Yorkville Air Force veteran died Friday after two weeks in intensive care, with his family alleging a linked building's cooling tower was not properly maintained.
Health officials are still tracing the source of the Upper East Side cluster, testing area cooling towers including one at the Metropolitan Museum of Art that came back positive for Legionella bacteria.
The outbreak has now sickened 74 people, with eight still hospitalized, concentrated in ZIP codes 10128, 10028 and 10075.
No new cases have been linked to the outbreak for more than a week, and the city believes the exposure source has been eliminated even as the investigation continues.
