Israel said Sunday it would respond with “full force” after Iran launched a ballistic missile toward its territory, the first direct Iranian aerial threat since the April 7 ceasefire.
A U.S. Aegis system intercepted the main warhead, and Israel’s Iron Dome then shot down fragments near Eilat; debris fell in an open area with no casualties or damage.
The IDF said no fragments landed inside Israeli territory, correcting earlier media reports, and described it as Iron Dome’s first use against an Iranian aerial threat since the ceasefire.
Defence Minister Israel Katz had already ordered preparations for a possible independent Israeli strike on Iran, saying Israel would not accept any scenario in which Iran fires missiles at it.
The launch adds to a wider regional escalation: Bahrain activated air sirens twice on Saturday over incoming drones and missiles, and the U.S. issued a worldwide caution alert for its citizens.
