Summary
Fadi Hamdallah al-Nassan, 17, died Saturday after a July 11 gunshot wound suffered during an attack on al-Mughayyir, his village in the occupied West Bank.
The Palestine Football Association said Israeli forces shot him in the thigh as settlers attacked the village; his leg was later amputated, but he succumbed to his injuries.
Al-Nassan played for Al-Mughayyir Club and Palestine’s national youth team, and mourners carried his body from Ramallah to al-Mughayyir for burial.
His death sharpened focus on wider West Bank violence: Palestinian media reported settler and military attacks Saturday that burned olive groves near Ramallah, destroyed a home near Nablus and included raids near Jenin.
The football association said his death raised the number of Palestinian sports figures killed since October 7, 2023, to 1,013, including 568 from football.
