Tony Evers endorsed Milwaukee County Executive David Crowley after deciding to weigh in on Wisconsin’s open governor’s race despite earlier saying he would stay neutral.
Crowley re-entered the race Friday just days after dropping out and backing Lt. Gov. Sara Rodriguez, whose campaign collapsed after a finance scandal left her with far less cash than expected.
Evers said Crowley is the best Democrat to defeat Republican Rep. Tom Tiffany, whom the primary winner will face in November.
July 28 is the next key date: WISN 12 plans a live Democratic debate featuring Crowley, Mandela Barnes, Joel Brennan, Francesca Hong and Kelda Roys before the Aug. 11 primary.
