Friendswood is the focus of mosquito control after Galveston County confirmed its first West Nile virus-positive mosquito pool of the season near the Brazoria County line.
Health officials said the positive pool marks the county’s first detection this season and prompted a targeted response to limit further mosquito spread.
Galveston County reported no human West Nile cases and no positive sentinel animals linked to the virus.
The detection signals seasonal virus activity in the county even as confirmed infections in people and animals remain absent so far.
