Summary
An estimated 480 billion gallons of rain fell across a 1,800-square-mile stretch of Texas Hill Country from July 13 to July 17, turning a multiday storm into a major flood event.
Rainfall totals reached 15 to 27 inches from Hondo through Uvalde toward Camp Wood and Utopia, with the heaviest bull’s-eye centered on Uvalde, Medina, Real and Kinney counties.
That volume sent the Frio, Sabinal, Nueces, Guadalupe and Pedernales rivers into destructive rises, while Cibolo Creek, Hondo Creek and other streams climbed to dangerous levels.
Destructive rainfall also extended beyond the core zone into other parts of the San Antonio metro area and the broader Hill Country, widening the flood threat.
