Summary
Mercedes turned around a difficult Friday at Spa as Kimi Antonelli went from sixth in FP1 to fastest in FP2, then said the team still has "a lot of work to do."
Big setup changes drove that jump after Mercedes started with too little downforce, leaving both Antonelli and George Russell struggling with an edgy, hard-to-handle car in the opening session.
Russell still finished only eighth in FP2, 1.2 seconds slower than Antonelli, though trackside engineering director Andrew Shovlin said the gap was inflated by a poor lap and limited preparation.
Antonelli arrives at the Belgian Grand Prix with a 25-point lead in the drivers' standings, and Mercedes now sees a clearer direction heading into Saturday.
