A 12-liter small-form-factor PC built around AMD’s Ryzen 7 7700X3D will be used as a hands-on SteamOS test bed after the chip’s formal gaming review wrapped.
The system pairs the CPU with a PowerColor RX 9070 XT Hellhound, 2TB Lexar NM790 SSD and 16GB of DDR5-4800 RAM, aiming to show what Linux gaming can deliver in a compact desktop.
SteamOS is set to replace an existing CachyOS install, letting the author compare Valve’s now "prime-time" OS with another Linux setup in real use rather than repeatable benchmarks.
The trial will also cover practical hurdles such as mod installation and daily work use, with Windows still likely needed for Photoshop and Premiere.
The build is positioned as a modern, more powerful take on a Steam Machine, though at three times the volume of the sub-4-liter original concept.
