Uvalde Floodwaters Kill 74-Year-Old Man After He Ignored Road Warnings

Uvalde County confirmed its first flood-related death Thursday after a 74-year-old man was found dead inside a vehicle in floodwaters north of Uvalde.
At about 10:30 a.m., Texas DPS Air Unit 108 spotted the vehicle’s taillights and reverse lights bobbing in water near U.S. Highway 83 North and County Road 400, about 4 miles north of town.
A DPS boat team reached the vehicle and confirmed the male occupant was dead; authorities said he had bypassed law enforcement warnings not to continue up the flooded roadway.
Sheriff Ruben Nolasco and the Uvalde County Sheriff’s Department are investigating, with further updates expected from the sheriff’s office.
