White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said Thursday that Donald Trump will attend Sunday’s FIFA World Cup final at MetLife Stadium, making his first appearance at this year’s tournament.
Gianni Infantino said Trump will join him on the field to hand the trophy to the winning captain, repeating their joint presentation at last year’s Club World Cup final in New Jersey.
Trump has also inserted himself into tournament matters, saying he asked Infantino to review Folarin Balogun’s red card before FIFA reversed the suspension and cleared the U.S. player to return.
The visit caps a tournament the White House framed as a showcase of U.S. hosting capacity, deepening Trump’s visible ties to FIFA after receiving its first Peace Prize in December 2025.
