Nineteen participants are currently working through Opportunity House’s Small Group Employment Program across four sites, where individuals with disabilities gain job experience in community businesses.
Each team pairs three workers with one on-site job coach, a structure Opportunity House uses to tailor duties to employer needs and provide training and daily support.
Those placements include janitorial, light assembly and packing work, giving participants workplace skills, confidence and greater independence while helping businesses fill specific tasks.
The Sycamore, Illinois-based nonprofit is also seeking more local employer partners to expand customized group employment opportunities and build more inclusive workforces.
