Summary
A Monroe mansion rented through Booking.com was left with sewage backups, broken windows, debris and a destroyed 150-year-old piano after a weekend party drew huge crowds.
Residents said organizers promoted the "Project X" event on social media, withheld the Sapphire Road address until the day of the party and then sent hundreds of cars into nearby streets.
Neighbors estimated 150 to 200 people were in the pool alone, and the gathering continued into early Sunday even after police were called.
Town Supervisor Maureen Richardson said the property's unincorporated location left enforcement to New York State Police, and she argued suspected trespassing, underage drinking and drug use should have prompted a shutdown.
By the time the out-of-town homeowner arrived, neighbors had already begun clearing the roadway, with residents and officials saying they were relieved no one was injured.
