Mwyngil Therapeutics is developing obesity treatments that avoid the GLP-1 receptor, setting the startup apart from most rivals chasing the same target.
CEO Luba Greenwood said the company was built around novel science rather than another “me too” GLP-1 or combination program, framing differentiation as its core strategy.
That approach runs against a market trend in which GLP-1 drugs have become the dominant focus of obesity biotech, spreading from specialist medicine into mass consumer advertising.
Mwyngil’s bet is that alternative weight-loss mechanisms could carve out room in a multibillion-dollar market already crowded with GLP-1 contenders.
