Autopsy findings said James Handy, 81, died from multiple traumatic injuries — a stab wound to the torso and neck compression that may have incapacitated him before the stabbing.
Los Angeles investigators said a verbal argument with his girlfriend's son, Michael Gledhill, escalated into a fight outside a home, after which Gledhill allegedly returned with a knife and stabbed the actor.
Gledhill, 44, was charged June 5 with murder and a deadly-weapon allegation, remained jailed on $2 million bail, and faces up to 26 years in prison if convicted.
Court records show Gledhill missed his arraignment and was sent for psychological evaluations, with another judge set to decide whether he is competent to stand trial.
Police said Gledhill confessed after a 911 caller reported, "I just killed the man of sin"; Handy, a veteran character actor, was known for roles in "Jumanji" and "Top Gun: Maverick."
