Cracking Face became the standout change after the Unicode Technical Committee replaced Face with Squinting Eyes in January, shifting the set toward a symbol for forced positivity masking distress.
Meteor also sharpens the lineup's distinctions: Daniel said it differs from the existing Comet, which will return to an icy-blue look on many devices instead of resembling a rock burning through the atmosphere.
The update also aims to fix cross-platform confusion, giving Monarch Butterfly its own slot rather than being mistaken for the blue Morpho, while adding Lighthouse, Eraser, Net With Handle and left- and right-pointing thumbs.
