Microsoft said July 9 that GitHub Copilot now shows .NET modernization in an interactive canvas, giving developers a live view of the upgrade agent’s workflow and a way to review and steer its actions.
The agent first assesses the application—target .NET version, NuGet package updates, breaking API changes and project dependencies—then generates a structured upgrade plan, creates implementation tasks and executes them.
The new canvas sits inside the GitHub Copilot app, while the upgrade agent also remains available in Visual Studio, Visual Studio Code and the GitHub Copilot CLI.
The release is aimed at making .NET application modernization easier to track and control, with access available through the GitHub Copilot upgrade marketplace.
