Summary
North Island Employment Foundations Society is using its 40th anniversary to collect stories from people, employers and partners affected by its work across North Vancouver Island.
Founded in 1986 as a youth employment initiative, NIEFS has expanded into a regional provider of employment services, skills training, employer support, newcomer services and community partnerships.
Executive Director Shannon Baikie said the milestone is meant to recognize not just the organization’s history, but also the people and communities that grew alongside it over four decades.
NIEFS says it has helped thousands find work while working with Indigenous communities, governments, schools, businesses and local organizations to strengthen the regional workforce.
Stories can be submitted as handwritten memories at the Campbell River or Port Hardy offices, or sent by email, the NIEFS contact page or Facebook.
