Bandai Namco Brings Once Upon A Katamari to Switch 2 on Oct. 8 With 10-Quest DLC

Q: With Switch 2 prices rising, is an enhanced Katamari port a compelling enough reason for players to upgrade their console?

No. For most players, an enhanced Switch 2 version of *Once Upon a Katamari* is not, by itself, a strong enough reason to buy a more expensive console. The upgrade is real but modest. On Switch 2, the game adds enhanced graphics, smoother performance, support for up to 4K in TV mode and up to 60 fps, plus mouse controls. The paid “Rolling Live Highlights” DLC also arrives the same day, but that content is coming to other platforms too, including the original Switch, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. The biggest factor against using Katamari as an upgrade driver is that Nintendo and Bandai Namco are not locking the core experience to new hardware. Owners of the original Switch version will get a free update that adds mouse controls and improves frame rate when the game is played on Switch 2. Save data can also transfer from Switch to Switch 2. That makes the new version more of a quality upgrade than a must-have exclusive. Price matters here. Nintendo has raised the Switch 2 price to $499.99 in the U.S., with similar increases in other regions. At that level, consumers are more likely to justify an upgrade through a broader package: major exclusives, stronger third-party support, backward compatibility, and hardware improvements across many games. For Katamari fans already planning to buy a Switch 2, this is a nice bonus. For everyone else, it is better seen as a pleasant enhancement than a decisive reason to upgrade.
