Summary
More than 275 homes and small businesses in Sumter County, Florida, can now get Spectrum internet, mobile, TV and voice service, with residential broadband speeds up to 1 Gbps.
The launch is part of Spectrum’s multi-year $7 billion rural construction initiative, which aims to add more than 100,000 miles of fiber and reach over 1.7 million new U.S. locations.
Residential plans start at 500 Mbps, while business service offers up to 1 Gbps downloads with 500 Mbps and 750 Mbps tiers; the company said it is also upgrading its broader network for gigabit upstream and multi-gig download speeds.
Spectrum is pairing the broadband rollout with mobile plans starting at $30 a month and TV service offering more than 270 HD channels and 85,000 on-demand titles.
Florida officials and Sumter County leaders cast the expansion as a digital-divide project, saying wired high-speed access should improve economic opportunity and access to services such as healthcare and education.
