Mississippi Teen Faces 2 Capital Murder Counts in Killing of Couple He Knew

Court testimony said 17-year-old Cordarius Hobbs knew Billy Blair, 74, and Virginia Carol Blair, 71, and had previously done work at their Mendenhall home before their June 3 killings.
Investigators said contractors found the scene suspicious that morning, deputies came for a welfare check by noon, and gunfire from inside triggered a nearly two-hour standoff before Hobbs was caught while fleeing unarmed.
Mississippi Bureau of Investigation testimony said the couple were each shot three times, three of Bill Blair’s firearms were recovered inside, and 280 shell casings were found at the home.
Defense lawyer Zachary Vaugh argued there is no direct forensic evidence tying Hobbs to the shootings and suggested the wound patterns could indicate another person was involved.
Hobbs was denied bond and now faces two capital murder counts, burglary and 10 other charges in a case that has shaken the small Mississippi community.
