After a 35-point debut with seven made threes, he followed with 19 points, 8 rebounds, 5 blocks and 2 steals against Utah, plus the kind of coast-to-rim dunk that instantly travels across the league. At 6-foot-9 with a 7-foot wingspan, he already flashes the transition force, switchable defense and weak-side rim protection teams covet in modern forwards. That said, Monday’s game also showed why scouts were cautious. He went 0-for-6 at the foul line, and his college record suggests the shooting questions are not solved by one hot week in Las Vegas. At North Carolina, he shot 25.9% from three on low volume and 71.3% from the line. Evaluators also flagged a loose handle, predictable right-hand finishing, and defensive lapses such as overhelping and poor screen navigation. Those are not minor details; they often determine whether an explosive athlete becomes an All-Star or just a highlight player. So far, Wilson is not masking flaws so much as revealing both sides at once. The athleticism, production and defensive events point to a possible superstar ceiling. Wilson poured in 35 points in his Chicago Summer League debut, the second-highest total ever in a Las Vegas opener, and earned the top grade among highlighted 2026 rookies.
Seven made 3-pointers on 11 attempts drove the outburst, a notable sign for a No. 4 pick whose outside shot was viewed as a swing skill entering the draft.
The debut was not spotless: Wilson missed four of six free throws, posted six turnovers without an assist and grabbed only five rebounds in 33 minutes.
He still added three blocks and two steals, reinforcing the high-motor, two-way profile he flashed earlier in Las Vegas, when he posted 19 points, eight rebounds and five blocks.
