John Schneider Defends U.S. Flag, Plays 45-Minute Set for 250th Anniversary

John Schneider said he was proud to perform a 45-minute concert in Washington for America’s 250th anniversary after being invited by the White House.
The 66-year-old actor and singer used the appearance to reject claims that the U.S. flag is divisive or makes people feel unsafe, calling such criticism misguided.
Schneider said open debate has grown less civil over roughly the past six years, arguing Americans should be able to express opinions and face friendly challenges rather than be shut out.
He tied the celebration to a longer personal history, recalling he also took part in the 1976 bicentennial as a high school band member and saying he remains proud of the country and its freedoms.
