Summary
An eighth Magen48 drill at Kibbutz Bror Hayil simulated eight terrorists infiltrating the Gaza-border community, forcing the local civilian defense squad to secure a kindergarten, evacuate residents and hold positions until IDF forces arrived.
The exercise reflected lessons from Oct. 7, 2023, when about 1,200 people were killed: trainers said many civilian responders fought alone, so the program now stresses paired engagement, shared procedures and faster coordination between nearby communities.
Forty-seven participants — including IDF soldiers and medical personnel — took part in the latest session, where response times and each step from alerts to casualty evacuation were monitored; no live ammunition was used inside the civilian community.
Founded in July 2024 and named for 48 first responders killed on Oct. 7, Magen48 says it has run more than 550 sessions and was tasked with helping provide 12 full training days a year to each of the 67 Gaza Envelope communities.
