Japan Spot Power Price Jumps 64% to ¥20.13/kWh as Heat Wave and Hormuz Disruptions Bite

¥20.13 per kWh — Japan’s nationwide day-ahead spot power price rose to a six-week high on Tuesday, according to the Japan Electric Power Exchange.
A 64% jump from a week earlier came as hotter weather in Tokyo lifted electricity demand while renewed Strait of Hormuz shipping disruptions pushed up gas and other fuel costs.
The move marks the highest spot power price since early June, showing how domestic heat and overseas energy supply risks are tightening Japan’s power market at the same time.
