Critics, including ESPN’s Jeff Passan, have warned that hitters could become too selective and slow the show down, making the Derby feel less electric even if it is easier to follow. So the likely outcome is not a better or worse Derby outright, but a rebalanced one: less chaotic, less record-driven, and potentially more cinematic — if the hitters deliver.

Philadelphia opened 2026 MLB All-Star Weekend with the host Phillies driving the marquee events — Bryce Harper and Kyle Schwarber in the Home Run Derby and Cristopher Sánchez starting Tuesday for the NL.
