COSMIC’s latest update adds Frosted Glass, a blurred-transparency effect for windows and interface elements that the reviewer says outclasses Apple’s Liquid Glass.
Pop!_OS 24.04 users can get it by installing the newest COSMIC release, rebooting, and enabling Frosted Glass in Settings under Desktop > Style.
The effect extends across core COSMIC apps including Terminal, System Monitor, File Manager, Text Editor and the App Launcher, with adjustable frost thickness and opacity.
System76 first disclosed Frosted Glass in 2024, and its arrival strengthens COSMIC’s pitch as a fast-rising Linux desktop built in Rust and increasingly positioned against macOS on design.
