Abbotsford Loses 700 Jobs in June as Employment Rate Falls to 61.1%

700 jobs disappeared in Abbotsford in June, pushing the employment rate down 0.4 percentage points to 61.1%, the city’s lowest job count since November 2025.
The unemployment rate held at 8.4% despite the losses, leaving Abbotsford tied with its highest reading since Statistics Canada began tracking the city in 2022 and its worst level in more than four years.
61.1% is also Abbotsford’s lowest employment rate in nearly two and a half years, extending weakness after a sharp jump in unemployment in May.
B.C. moved the other way in June, adding 7,800 jobs as its employment rate rose 0.2 points and unemployment fell 0.3 points—the country’s third-largest decline.
