Acer Unveils Sospiro A15 With 1.88-Inch Rear Display for Latin America

No. A second screen can make a 4G phone more interesting, but it is unlikely to make it broadly compelling in a market where 5G is increasingly the baseline. Acer’s Sospiro A15 shows the appeal of the idea. Its 1.88-inch rear display adds practical uses: quick notifications, music controls, and a rear-camera viewfinder for better selfies. In a midrange segment crowded with similar-looking devices, that is a genuine differentiator, especially if the price is low. But the rest of the package matters more. The Sospiro A15 uses an entry-level Unisoc T615 chip, lacks 5G, and charges at just 18W, which is slow by 2026 standards. In many markets, even budget phones now offer 5G, and carriers are pushing mid-band 5G as the sweet spot for noticeably better speeds and capacity than 4G. That makes 5G less of a luxury feature and more of a long-term value question. The regional context helps Acer’s case. In Latin America, where 5G rollout is still uneven and price sensitivity is high, a well-priced 4G phone with a distinctive feature can still find buyers. For users focused on messaging, streaming, social media, and battery life, 4G may remain sufficient today. Still, the second screen is better seen as a niche bonus than a substitute for modern connectivity. It may help the Sospiro A15 stand out on a store shelf, but on its own it does not outweigh the broader market shift toward 5G.

Acer’s new Sospiro A15 brings a rare secondary screen to the midrange market, placing a 1.88-inch 240 x 284 display beside the rear cameras for notifications, music controls and camera preview.
The phone otherwise targets budget-conscious buyers with a 6.67-inch HD IPS screen, Unisoc T615 chip, 6GB RAM, 128GB storage and no 5G support.
A 5,000mAh battery, 18W USB-C charging, 64-megapixel rear camera, 16-megapixel front camera and microSD expansion up to 1TB round out the hardware.
Latin America is the launch market for now, and Acer has not disclosed pricing for the Android 16 device, which also includes IP64 protection, a fingerprint reader and a 3.5mm headphone jack.
The launch marks a rare smartphone move from Acer, which has recently focused more on tablets, laptops, handheld gaming devices and smart glasses.
