Summary
Microsoft is slowly rolling out an optional Copilot feature in the U.S. that can answer Windows 11 questions using live PC data, including CPU, RAM, GPU, storage, battery, BIOS, network and connected-device status.
Read-only access comes through Windows APIs after user permission, letting Copilot estimate tasks such as whether 87GB free space is enough for a 100GB game and suggest cleanup steps.
Microsoft says personal files and system information are not stored or used to train models, though conversation activity such as prompts and responses may still be used depending on settings.
Copilot itself undercuts the pitch: the current Windows app is a web app bundled with a private Edge installation and was observed using roughly 800MB to 1GB of RAM while idle.
