Ebola exposure could put travelers' lives at serious risk and trigger quarantine outside the United States for up to 21 days, with potentially significant costs that insurance may not cover.
U.S. citizens who may have been exposed can request a voluntary U.S. government process to secure access to life-saving care, though those who decline still face U.S. and host-country screening and travel measures.
The embassy also directed travelers to CDC and Homeland Security guidance on enhanced Ebola screening and urged Americans in or heading to DRC to update documents, review evacuation coverage and alert family.
