$45 million will settle multistate allegations that Block misled Cash App users about safety, failed to curb fraud and fell short on legally required dispute-resolution and reimbursement practices.
States said weak identity checks, no phone support for years and promotions such as Cash App Fridays made users easier targets for scammers, leaving some locked out of accounts or unable to recover stolen funds.
Block agreed to keep 24/7 live phone and chat support, investigate fraud claims, stop misleading safety marketing and expand scam education for users.
Pennsylvania will receive about $1.14 million, and the settlement also reinforces Block's separate CFPB commitment to provide $75 million to $120 million in nationwide consumer compensation.
