Candidates must declare by July 15 and submit at least 500 signatures from registered Democrats across at least eight counties by July 21 to qualify for the convention ballot. At this stage, Jackson appears to be the most prominent progressive option, Shah the best-known moderate, and Bellows a familiar statewide figure with prior Senate experience. But because the nominee will be decided by 601 party delegates in multiple rounds of voting, the outcome remains uncertain. So the short answer is that Collins’ challenger has not yet emerged definitively; the race is now centered on whether Jackson, Shah or Bellows can win the Democratic convention and become the replacement nominee.
