Fairlawn police said recent social media chatter points to possible teen takeover events in the city and warned that anyone causing disruptions or committing crimes may be arrested.
Summit Mall and all Fairlawn businesses are private property, police said, adding that officers will be present and the city will enforce a zero-tolerance policy on disorderly conduct and unauthorized gatherings.
More than 100 unsupervised teens took over Market Hall at Van Aken District in March, forcing an early closure and prompting the district to move its youth chaperone curfew to 4 p.m. daily.
The warning follows other Northeast Ohio responses, including Beachwood police coordinating with mall management and Garfield Heights permanently closing Debelak Park after a shooting and a takeover flyer circulated online.
