Summary
Big Boy No. 4014 is rolling across western Pennsylvania on Saturday, with its headline public stop set for Leetsdale from 6:15 p.m. to 6:45 p.m.
The 133-foot locomotive is following a tentative route from Altoona through Horseshoe Curve and Cresson, then past Derry, Latrobe, Greensburg and Jeannette before reaching the Pittsburgh area.
Union Pacific said spectators can track the train online and should stay 25 feet from the tracks, never crossing or placing anything on them.
Built in 1941, the 1.2 million-pound Big Boy is the only one of the 25 original locomotives still operating after a years-long restoration.
The tour is part of America’s 250th anniversary celebration, drawing crowds in the millions as the locomotive makes a rare coast-to-coast run through the Ohio Valley.
