Sheinbaum Vows Legal Action Over ICE Shooting of 52-Year-Old Mexican in Texas

Claudia Sheinbaum said Mexico will pursue “more significant legal measures” against the United States after ICE agents fatally shot 52-year-old Lorenzo Salgado Araujo during an operation in Houston.
DHS said Araujo ignored commands and tried to ram an agent with his vehicle, prompting a self-defense shooting; DHS-OIG is investigating the shooting and FBI Houston the alleged assault on an officer.
Mexico says 17 Mexican nationals have died in U.S. immigration custody or DHS operations, and Foreign Minister Roberto Velasco plans to seek criminal charges through the Justice Department and state attorneys general.
Body-camera scrutiny has intensified because the agents on scene did not have them; DHS said rollout to all ICE field offices was delayed by earlier government shutdowns and should finish within 60 days.
The dispute adds strain to U.S.-Mexico relations as Sheinbaum also accused Washington of lying about its role in the 2024 abduction of former Sinaloa cartel boss El Mayo Zambada.
