Summary
Nearly five years after his last bout, Conor McGregor is set to return at UFC 329, ending an absence that began with his July 2021 loss to Dustin Poirier.
At UFC 264 in Las Vegas, McGregor’s trilogy fight with Poirier was stopped after Round 1 when McGregor suffered a broken lower tibia, capping a bout in which Poirier had already hurt him with punches and top control.
The injury required surgery and derailed McGregor’s comeback plans, including a proposed fight with Michael Chandler that later collapsed after McGregor broke a toe.
That defeat made Poirier 2-1 against McGregor; Poirier later went 2-4, missed again on lightweight and BMF titles, and retired after losing to Max Holloway at UFC 318 in 2025.
