12 months in prison and a 3.5-year driving ban were imposed on Owen Pendree, 32, after he admitted dangerous driving, driving while disqualified and having no insurance.
30 June footage showed Pendree pulling wheelies and weaving through Newport city-centre traffic on Corporation Road before police used a stinger to stop the pursuit near Clarence Place.
Helicopter video then captured him grabbing the Sur-Ron electric motorbike and throwing it off Newport Town Bridge into the River Usk before officers arrested him.
Gwent Police said video evidence left Pendree with little room to contest the case and said the sentence showed dangerous drivers would be brought before the courts.
