Buddy Unveils Horror Trailer Ahead of Aug. 28 Theatrical Release

Roadside Attractions released the teaser for Buddy, a horror-comedy about an orange unicorn children’s TV host whose cheerful world turns menacing when one child resists joining in.
Aug. 28 is the film’s theatrical release date after a Sundance premiere earlier this year, with the trailer cutting between dance-show whimsy and bursts of terror on the set of It’s Buddy!.
Casper Kelly directed and co-wrote the film with Jamie King, extending the off-kilter horror sensibility Kelly brought to Adult Swim’s 2014 viral short Too Many Cooks.
Keegan-Michael Key, who voices Buddy, leads a cast that includes Cristin Milioti, Topher Grace, Delaney Quinn, Patton Oswalt and Michael Shannon.
Sundance reaction was mixed: The Hollywood Reporter’s David Rooney praised Key’s voice work but said the film’s gore and detours still fell short of being as extreme as intended.
