Summary
A Ryanair flight from Thessaloniki to Memmingen returned shortly after takeoff after a passenger window detached midair and a 61-year-old Serbian man was partially pulled outside before nearby passengers dragged him back in.
Engine debris reportedly smashed the window over North Macedonia, triggering decompression, dropping oxygen masks and leaving the man with friction burns; authorities said he was hospitalized in otherwise good condition.
Ryanair said the aircraft landed normally in Thessaloniki and passengers were taken back to the terminal before a replacement plane was arranged for the onward trip to Germany.
The incident involved flight FR1879, operated by Malta Air on an 18-year-old Boeing 737, and Greek and Maltese authorities are investigating.
