Peacock’s “The Five-Star Weekend,” now streaming in full, makes its biggest break from Elin Hilderbrand’s novel by overhauling how Gigi’s affair with Hollis’ late husband is exposed.
In the book, Electra reveals the affair and Gigi confesses directly to Hollis; in the series, Brooke finds a photo on Gigi’s phone, tells the others, and the group confronts Gigi before Hollis learns.
The show also changes key details around the betrayal: Hollis admits she had long suspected Matthew was cheating, and Gigi knows from their first kiss that he is married.
Elin Hilderbrand said she gave showrunner Bekah Brunstetter carte blanche to reshape the story for television, arguing the series needed a faster pace while preserving the book’s spirit.
That marks a softer response than after 2024’s “The Perfect Couple” adaptation, whose larger departures drew fan backlash; Hilderbrand said her main concern this time was getting Nantucket right.
