Summary
Bracken Road, Anthony Hopkins’ first released single, arrives Friday as the 88-year-old actor prepares to issue his debut album Life Is a Dream on Aug. 21 through Decca Classics.
The release fulfills what Hopkins called his “first desire” — a record deal for music he has been composing since childhood, with the album collecting works written across six decades.
Bracken Road was composed in 1963 while Hopkins was a young actor at the Liverpool Playhouse and draws on memories of Margam in south Wales, near his family home.
Gustavo Dudamel conducts the Philharmonia Orchestra on the project, with cellist Gregorio Nieto and pianist Sergio Tiempo also performing Hopkins’ compositions.
Other tracks, including My Fatherland, revisit Port Talbot, family memories and Welsh roots, extending a late-career shift from Oscar-winning screen roles into classical composition.
