Apple Meets PrismML Over 27 Billion-Parameter iPhone AI

Apple has held meetings with startup PrismML about using its technology to run far larger AI models directly on iPhones, according to The Information.
PrismML says it shrank Alibaba’s Qwen 3.6 into a 27 billion-parameter model that runs on an iPhone 17 Pro, far above the few billion active parameters typical in mobile models.
The pitch is on-device performance without relying on servers, potentially giving Apple a path to more capable iPhone AI while keeping processing local.
PrismML plans to open-source the model on July 14 and says it can handle tasks including software development, underscoring why Apple is exploring the technology.
The talks fit Apple’s broader AI push, which has included a reported $2 billion Q.ai acquisition and work with Google on a new Siri tied to iOS 27.
