Summary
Mercedes-AMG’s new CLA 45 packs 671bhp and 1,297lb-ft from three axial-flux motors, hitting 0-62mph in 3.0 seconds in both saloon and Shooting Brake forms.
Recorded sounds from the old AMG A45 S turbo four-cylinder, fake gearshifts and seat shakers are meant to recreate combustion-car drama in the EV.
A 94kWh usable battery delivers up to 416 miles of range in the saloon and 398 miles in the estate, while 330kW charging can take it from 10% to 80% in 22 minutes.
The setup uses one front booster motor and two rear motors for on-demand all-wheel drive, plus adaptive dampers, active aero and up to seven drive modes with the AMG Dynamic Plus package.
The electric CLA 45 replaces a 415bhp petrol predecessor that needed 4.0 seconds to reach 62mph; Mercedes-AMG has not yet announced pricing.
