Jasmine Crockett said her failed Texas Democratic Senate primary was "a racist race," arguing she was judged by a different standard after losing to James Talarico.
At the Essence Festival on the Native Land podcast, Crockett said she drew more than double the roughly 500,000 votes a prior Democratic nominee won in a presidential year and still lost.
Crockett also rejected pressure to campaign alongside Talarico, saying she did not need to "hold his hand" and could better help Democrats by boosting little-known Black down-ballot candidates to raise turnout.
The comments expose lingering friction after Crockett's 2025-26 Senate bid; Talarico, now the Democratic nominee, faces Republican Ken Paxton in the general election.
