Royal Assent has cleared Jersey’s assisted dying law for terminally ill adults, allowing the government to move ahead with a service planned to start later in 2027.
The Assisted Dying (Jersey) Law 2026 will take effect once it is registered at the Royal Court in the coming days, after the island’s government approved the bill in February 2026.
Government officials said preparatory work is already under way, including recruiting key staff, with Health Minister Tom Binet calling the assent a critical step but saying substantial setup work remains.
Lorna Pirozzolo, a campaigner with incurable breast cancer, said the move would spare dying people severe suffering and showed public engagement could change Jersey law.
