Regulatory filings point to a larger battery—5,391mAh in China and 5,567mAh in the U.S.—nearly 500mAh above the iPhone 17 Pro Max and the main reason cited for the added bulk.
A new stainless-steel vapor chamber may also contribute to the weight increase, even after Apple had moved from titanium to lighter aluminum on the iPhone 17 Pro line.
At 240 grams, the model would match the iPhone 14 Pro Max and could end up Apple’s heaviest iPhone again when the iPhone 18 lineup is expected to launch in September.
