Malaysia Faces $2.18 Billion in Remaining 1MDB Debts Through 2039

That brings the total gross 1MDB burden to **RM51.4 billion**. Against that, Malaysia has recovered **RM31.3 billion** in 1MDB-linked assets and funds. Subtracting those recoveries from the total liability leaves a remaining bill of roughly **RM20.1 billion**. Deputy Finance Minister Liew Chin Tong has warned that future recoveries are unlikely to fully offset that amount, even though authorities are still pursuing more assets through domestic and international legal action. The anti-graft agency has said it aims to recover more by 2027, but on current figures the final taxpayer burden remains around **RM20.1 billion**.
