Q: With no damages paid, who really won the bitter legal war between Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni?

Blake Lively came out ahead overall, though neither side won cleanly. The settlement itself produced no damages and no admission of wrongdoing, so on its face it looked like a draw. But the later court ruling shifted the balance. Judge Lewis J. Liman ordered Justin Baldoni and his company to pay Lively’s legal fees and costs tied to his dismissed defamation countersuit, citing California protections against retaliatory suits. That gave Lively the only clear financial recovery in the case. Procedurally, Lively also fared better. Baldoni’s major defamation claims against Lively, Ryan Reynolds and others were dismissed, and the judge found no proof that Lively acted with malice in making her allegations. That undercut Baldoni’s central legal strategy of turning the case into a reputational counterattack. Baldoni did score important wins. Much of Lively’s original case, including key sexual-harassment claims, was dismissed before settlement, and she did not secure punitive or treble damages. His side has used those rulings to argue that the most serious accusations were not proven in court. Still, in a legal war, the clearest measure is who left with enforceable relief. Lively did: Baldoni did not. He avoided a damages judgment, but his countersuit failed and may now cost him millions in fees. That makes Lively the stronger victor in court, even if the broader public-relations and reputational fallout remains far more mixed for both sides.

A nearly five-minute Instagram video posted July 7 marked Justin Baldoni's first public comments on the Blake Lively legal battle, with Baldoni saying he and his family are "healing" after years of trauma.
Emily Baldoni said the couple had stayed quiet to let the justice system run its course, calling the ordeal an injustice "disguised as a fight for women" and saying they did not want to add to the noise.
The dispute began in December 2024 when Lively accused Baldoni, Wayfarer Studios and others of sexual harassment, retaliation and a smear campaign; Baldoni later sued Lively, Ryan Reynolds and The New York Times, but a judge dismissed those actions in June 2025.
The year-and-a-half fight ended with a May 4 settlement of Lively's breach-of-contract and retaliation claims, but the fallout continues: on June 30, Lively sought more than $8 million in attorneys' fees and litigation costs from Baldoni.
