EA Halts New Need for Speed and Burnout Games as Criterion Shifts to Battlefield

Summary
Electronic Arts is no longer actively developing new Need for Speed or Burnout titles after Criterion, the main studio tied to both series, was reassigned fully to Battlefield.
Criterion's 30th anniversary update underscored the shift: Battlefield Studios Europe chief Rebecka Coutaz said the team is "solely focused on Battlefield" and will remain a dedicated Battlefield studio.
Need for Speed's latest entry was 2022's Unbound, while Burnout has not had a new main release since 2008's Burnout Paradise, aside from a 2018 remaster.
The move cements reports from last year that Need for Speed had been shelved indefinitely and leaves EA's arcade racing portfolio dormant as it concentrates resources on rebuilding Battlefield.
