Michigan Gasoline Averages $4.04 a Gallon as 2.6 Million Travelers Hit July 4 Roads

$4.04 a gallon is Michigan’s statewide average ahead of the Fourth of July weekend, with most stations topping $4 as AAA expects a record 2.6 million residents to travel at least 50 miles.
Driving will account for most of those trips, raising the prospect of heavy road congestion even as pump prices have eased from $4.31 a month ago.
Branch County averaged $4.07, St. Joseph $4.03 and Calhoun $4.01, while Hillsdale County was among the state’s cheapest at $3.96.
Michigan drivers still face much higher costs than a year ago, when gas averaged $3.32, and than the current U.S. average of $3.84; neighboring Indiana averaged $3.12 after suspending its state gas tax.
